In Memory of

Dr. Stuart Richer, OD, PhD, FAAO

July 8, 1955 – October 26, 2022

Dr. Stuart Richer, “Stu” as he was known to many, was a brilliant optometrist, researcher, and professor. He served for many years at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in Chicago, providing superior eye care to our nation’s veterans. His work in the Department of Veterans Affairs, The American Academy of Optometry (AAO), The Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology (ARVO), The Ocular Wellness and Nutrition Society (OWNS), and the Optometric Retina Society (ORS) is second to none. His many contributions to the science of vision loss and nutrition cannot be understated.  His research in the area of visual function, nutrition in macular degeneration, and other retinal and systemic disease has led to important discoveries that have already changed public health outcomes and quality of life for millions of patients in the United States and world-wide. He will be missed, but his contributions to Optometry and Ocular Nutrition will continue for many years, if not forever.
